Why Macuelizo?

There is a vast array of needs for the impoverished individuals and families in Macuelizo and together we can make a difference.

At risk community

Macuelizo is a municipality in Honduras, with a population of 38,200 people and very rich in natural resources: its soils are rich in precious minerals, the waters of its rivers irrigate the cultivated land in the summer months and its sand is of a premium quality, highly prized for construction.

The people are modest and gentle but with a high level of poverty.

The Covid-19 pandemic, together with the category 4 hurricanes (Eta and Lota) in 2020 caused a major fall in the GDP in Honduras. This meant 400,000 people were left without work and some 33 thousand under 18s were forced to emigrate to the United States and other countries in Central America.

A child born in Honduras today, when they grow up, will be 48% less productive than they could be if they had access to full education and healthcare. This means that before reaching the age of 16, many young people will have dropped out of school.
Macuelizo is a municipality in Honduras, with a population of around 38,200 people and rich in natural resources: its lands are abundant in precious minerals, its rivers’ waters irrigate cultivated lands during the summer, and its sands are of high quality, beneficial for construction purposes. Its people are simple, peaceful, and friendly, but they face a high level of poverty.
The founders of Even So Amen have strong ties to this municipality as they have family and friends currently living there. This makes our foundation a committed entity to the community and a natural starting point for transforming the quality of life in Macuelizo and other cities in Latin America.
